A complete 4-3-3 A Wing Play setup for OSM, with exact sliders, ranges, line instructions and matchup advice.Quick answer
The setup in one minute
Use 4-3-3 A with Wing Play when your front three are a genuine strength and you expect to control territory. Start at 70 pressing, 70 style and 67 tempo, then stay inside the stated bands.
Best for: Strong favourites, especially at home, whose wingers and full-backs can win the outside channels without exposing a weak centre.

- Forwards
- Attack Only
- Midfielders
- Stay in Position
- Defenders
- Defend Deep; attacking full-backs only when clearly dominant
- Marking
- Zonal
- Offside trap
- No by default
Reference point: Start at 70 / 70 / 67 when the XI advantage is clear.
Watch for: The shape becomes fragile when both full-backs advance and possession is lost cheaply.

Match context
Adjust the idea, not its identity
Stronger team
Use the reference setup. At home, a small move toward the upper half of the pressing or style band is reasonable when fitness is strong.
Equal team
Move toward the bottom of the bands and keep the defenders deep. If midfield is your weaker line, 4-3-3 B is usually the safer family.
Underdog
This is rarely the best default. Use it only when the match objective requires a goal and your attackers remain the part of the XI most likely to decide the game.
Away
Reduce risk before changing identity: lower pressing or style a few points inside the band, not all three sliders at once.
Strengths and risks
Where this formation earns its place
What it does well
- Creates width without sacrificing a central striker
- Pins conservative opponents deep when your XI is stronger
- Gives natural wingers a direct role in chance creation
Where it can fail
- Can leave transition space beside the midfield
- Needs three credible attackers rather than improvised wide players
- Becomes unnecessarily open when every slider and both full-backs advance together
Common mistakes
Do not break the system yourself
- Selecting Wing Play without natural wide attackers
- Sending full-backs forward while also maximizing pressing and style
- Treating the formation as safe merely because it has four defenders
Dangerous matchups
Know when to choose something else
4-5-1 — A compact five-man midfield can close central support and force low-quality wide possession.
