How to Counter 5-2-3 A in OSM
Complete OSM counter options against a deep 5-2-3 A transition system, including slider ranges.Understand the matchup
What you are trying to stop
A back five protects the box while three forwards remain available for fast transitions.
A formation name is only the first clue. Confirm the opponent’s game plan, likely eleven, venue, fitness and match objective before choosing a response. The ranges below are coherent starting points, not automatic hard counters.

Before you save
Final switches still depend on the match
Keep tackling tied to the referee and your tolerance for cards. Careful is the safer starting point under a very strict referee; Normal is the neutral default; only accept more aggression when the official and match context justify the additional variance.
Zonal marking and Offside Trap No are the robust defaults shown above. Deep back fives and low blocks should not try to step up for an offside trap: the two ideas ask the defensive line to move in opposite directions.
