Overview
The opening days of an OSM season create a familiar temptation: search for every exciting young player and spend before the rest of the league gets moving. That is usually too blunt. A prospect is useful only when he improves the team you actually have, fits the formation you intend to play and leaves enough money to repair the next weakness.
This is a scouting board, not a shopping list. Ratings, values, positions, clubs and scout filters can change with OSM database updates. Check every target in the live database before sending the scout or committing Boss Coins.
Build the first two upgrades, not a fantasy XI
For a lower-objective club, the most attractive four-player foundation is Guillaume Restes in goal, Finn Jeltsch in defence, Victor Froholdt in midfield and Christian Kofane in attack. Buying all four immediately is rarely the best opening.
Start with the two largest improvements to your strongest eleven. If midfield and attack contain weak starters, Froholdt plus Kofane can transform the side more than a small upgrade on every line. Froholdt plus Jeltsch is the safer, more balanced opening when the defence needs immediate help.
Judge every name on five things:
- Can he start now?
- Is he young enough to benefit meaningfully from regular training?
- Is the likely price sensible for his reputation?
- Could you resell him without damaging the first team?
- Does his natural position fit the shape you will actually use?
The labels below describe the role of the target, not a guaranteed market price. First choice is the first player to investigate; Value suggests a potentially favourable profile; Core can anchor the XI; Stretch may require early sales; and Project is a training bet that should not be forced into the team too soon.
Goalkeepers: buy a real upgrade

A goalkeeper should normally be about five quality points above your starter, or young enough to become your best keeper after a realistic number of training cycles. Replacing a 76 with a 78 while two attackers sit near 70 is poor sequencing.
Defenders: improve the line you use

Your first defensive purchase should become the best player in the line, train well and cover a natural position required by the formation. An expensive fifth centre-back is a luxury when your preferred shape needs full-backs and neither side is good enough.
Midfielders: invest where the tactic lives

Midfield is often the best first investment for 4-5-1, 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 B. The player should enter the XI immediately and occupy the role the formation needs. Three similar attacking midfielders do not solve the absence of a usable central or defensive midfielder.
Attackers: buy goals that fit the shape

Look for an attacker who is roughly five to eight quality points above the weakest starter, trains efficiently and plays naturally in your system. A famous winger is not an upgrade if your tactic does not use his position or the centre-forward remains the weakest player.
Match the shortlist to the budget
For a smaller budget, investigate Seimen or Abramowicz in goal, Heaven or Ahanor in defence, Maza or Mayulu in midfield, and Kostoulas or El Mala in attack. They are value searches, not promises that the live market will be cheap.
The balanced shortlist is Restes, Jeltsch, Froholdt and Kofane, with Backhaus, Vitor Reis, Can Uzun and Franculino as alternatives. Stronger budgets can explore Penders or Risser, Hato or Yoro, Bergvall or Bouaddi, and Quenda or Rayan—but those are premium purchases, not hidden bargains.

Find the exact player with the OSM scout
The value of a named shortlist disappears when the search is too broad. Before sending the scout, check the current database entry and record the player’s line, specific position, age, quality, nationality and current league. Use all available criteria and the narrowest quality range that still includes the live rating.
If the target does not appear, adjust the quality range first. Change age or league only after checking whether a database update or transfer changed the entry. A broad search may return three perfectly valid prospects and still miss the player you meant to find.
For a typical objective-14 club, the practical order is simple: buy Froholdt or Kofane first, add Jeltsch or Heaven, replace the goalkeeper only for a substantial improvement and train one young starter in every line. Leave premium names until the first profitable sales have created room.
