How to Counter 4-3-3 B in OSM

Complete OSM counter setups for 4-3-3 B Passing Game and Wing Play, with sliders for every strength tier.

Understand the matchup

What you are trying to stop

The holding midfielder creates stable passing triangles and protects the opponent against central counters.

A formation name is only the first clue. Confirm the opponent’s game plan, likely eleven, venue, fitness and match objective before choosing a response. The ranges below are coherent starting points, not automatic hard counters.

Want to play this shape yourself? Read the 4-3-3 B tactic guide for its complete starting setup, strengths and weaknesses.

4-5-1 Shoot on Sight

Stay compact, close central lanes and create threat through midfield shot volume.

Watch for: Avoid this as a default against 4-4-2 B Passing. Long-range volume can also become sterile against an elite goalkeeper.

Before you save

Final switches still depend on the match

Keep tackling tied to the referee and your tolerance for cards. Careful is the safer starting point under a very strict referee; Normal is the neutral default; only accept more aggression when the official and match context justify the additional variance.

Zonal marking and Offside Trap No are the robust defaults shown above. Deep back fives and low blocks should not try to step up for an offside trap: the two ideas ask the defensive line to move in opposite directions.
